Stop! So you think your ‘no good a art’,Eh? Your reading this so you’ve obviously got an interest. Havn’t you? Do you look at other peoples work and say,’But I cant draw like that’.
Well I’ve got news for you!
Take a trip to the art gallery, either a modern gallery of contemporary art or a traditional Gallery of all the ‘Classical’ artists, or preferably both. What do you see?
You see a diversity of styles, a profusion of technique, an abundance of colour (or not in some cases), there are various subject matters, different materials and more significantly all the names are different.
This is individuality! In the same way your signature is as unique to you as your fingerprints, Art is also an individual expression. Techniques can be learned, styles can be copied, but ultimately these things will only serve to enhance the expression which is indiginous to you.
You already have talent! It’s just your only comparison is that which you have seen. If we all created peices of art exactly the same, the diversity would not exist. That is the wonder of art, and thats what you can be a part of.
Look at the artists that have gone before; Rembrandt, Michaelangelo, Klimt, Monet, Lowry, Moore,
Spencer, Mondrian, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Dali to Warhol, Munch, Mucha. The significance between these artist is the diversity and progression of their art.
Art is not just about technique, its about visual expression, the invigourisation of the senses, the stimulation of opinion, and we are all capable of that. Lowrys’ technique wasn’t fantastic in the opinion of critics, Dali was considered unconventional, but significantly, they are acclaimed artists.
We get great pleasure out of childrens drawings and paintings, but they’re not destined for the Louvre, and it is this concept that you should always use as a measure to your own capabilities.
It is not what your representation means to someone else (as they will always draw their own relationship from the painting) but what it means to you.
Find your medium and make yourself happy!

Our painter of the day is Pablo Picasso. Picasso (1881 1973) was a Spanish painter, draughtsman, and sculptor. As one of the most renowned figures in 20th-century art, he was co-founding of the Cubist movement. Pablo Picassos work is categorized in periods. While the names of several of his later periods are debated, the most accepted periods in his work are the Blue Period (19011904), the Rose Period (19051907), the African-influenced Period (19081909), Analytic Cubism (19091912), and Synthetic Cubism (19121919).
Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d’Avignon and his interpretation of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.
