In my home, you will find paintings of The Last Supper, Sermon on the Mount, The Creation of Adam, and those are just a few of my favorites. I also enjoy the impressionists. Everyone enjoys high profile paintings, and they are all worthy to be shown in their own right. Most of us have priceless paintings in our own home and don’t even know it. No one else has the picture painted by their child of her/his family. The way she/he sizes us, shows who she sees as in control at that point in time. The colors she/he uses shows the mood she is in at the time of the portrait. The people other than family immediate family members shows who is relevant to her/him right then.
My favorite art in my home is the creations and artwork my children make.
When a child does a masterpiece, it denotes emotions that they are sometime not able to express in words. A beautiful flower may show that the child is satisfied with her/his self inside. Blustery days may show that this small person needs to speak of something that she/he doesn’t know how to start a conversation about. My favorite is landscapes, with trees,sunlight, mountains, animals, as this speaks that the child sees the world as part of a bigger world.
Enjoy every piece of art you encounter, as it is all worthy. Even the simplest doodle expresses a whimsical feel. The original artwork we own is like a calender of our child’s life, with them allowing us to look in, and if we are smart and choose to explore these masterpieces, we might just get to know our flesh and blood better than we ever imagined, and maybe produce another DaVinci if we discuss their pictures as art, or Shakespeare if we see it as an abstract of their feelings.

Did you ever walk into someone’s home and look around and suddenly become embarrassed by your own homes décor? It just seems that some people are artistically gifted while the rest of us suffer from some form of artistic dysfunction. It can be irritating to have to try so hard just to hang some pictures. But once you get the knack of things, it is really not so hard and your home’s interior can remind you of those homes with that special Wow factor.
Artwork, by its very nature, is a personal expression and every individual will receive it on a personal level. Some paintings just call to you and you simply have to have it while others just do not make sense. This is true for everyone, and not just the artistically challenged.
Start Small and Simple
If you are ready to tackle some new and improved decorating ideas, and ready to start with the artwork that hangs on your walls, then pick a room and jump right in. It is usually best to start with your favorite room in the house simply because this room is probably a place that you already have a vision, even if it is very small. Most people have white walls, but if you have a bit more splash to your room, that will work just fine as well. Start small and just pick a color scheme. Just like that. Something that will compliment what is already painted or wallpapered to the room, but one color that really works for you. It is okay to be daring and go with reds, greens, blues, or even yellows and oranges. Often, once we have latched onto a basic color scheme, us artistically challenged can work through our dysfunction and move forward. However, part of our dysfunction is the tendency to over use our color. Start small, but stay simple.
Let us say we were having a bold day and we picked orange for our color scheme. We do not need paintings and artwork that are completely orange. Maybe just one nice piece that is mostly orange, but the rest should just have a little of that color reflected in the work.
Themes, Clashes, and Other Artwork Disasters
Rule number one in overcoming artistic dysfunction is never mix styles and themes in the same room. Some people can get away with that and it looks fabulous. But we are not so fortunate and we must keep it very simple. If your orange room has one lovely impressionist piece in it, then stay with various forms of impressionist artwork throughout the room. Some experts say that you should maintain the same style throughout the entire home. Others say to vary but only room by room. I am in favor of room by room because I do not like boredom, and too much repetition is boredom.
Some colors work well with others and other colors are an atrocious disaster when blended or even in the same state as another color. I have yet to see a well blended sample of orange and pink, although I am sure some highly creative type compiled them beautifully.
If you are not sure, ask. Asking questions and gathering ideas from other people is the best way to learn. If you are looking for specific answers then you have to ask specific questions. Bring a photo and explain that you are looking for something that will compliment painting well, not match it. Part of learning the fine art of decorating with artwork is learning to compliment pieces rather than match them. You do not have to be pushed in purchasing something you do not like, but the experience of watching someone find you a painting that compliments the one you started with can be very beneficial. In fact, after a few tries, you may even begin looking yourself, with confidence. By enhancing your decorating talents step by little tiny baby step, you will be able to put together impressive themes and décor without wasting money on pieces that do not work.

Tate Britain, located in Millbank London was commissioned in 1984 as the national gallery of British art. Formerly known as the Tate Gallery its collection is owed to Henry Tate who offered the gallery provided that the government at the time undertook its administration. The site was previously grounds to a prison that was demolished providing 3 acres for the gallery which was completed and built in 1897. The original building, designed by Sidney R J Smith, consisted of seven galleries and an entrance hall. The second phase done in 1899 consisted of 9 more galleries with further more additions made in 1909 by W H Romaine Walker which was developed to house the Turner Collection.
1917 saw Tate given a renewed goal of acquiring a collection for international modern art with new galleries opening for this collection in 1926. The years that followed saw further extensions to the building including the sculpture galleries and a domed octagon which emphasises the centre of the building. In 1992 the Tate Trustees announce a need to divide the vast collection due to the overburdened gallery and Tate Modern was built to contain the international modern and contemporary art collection leaving the original Tate Building to be devoted to British art from 1500 to the present. The building was thus named Tate Britain in March 2000.

Young Art Collectors

It is common belief that collecting art is something that only those belonging to a much older generation do. This may be true when it comes to works of art by the so-called Old Masters—Rembrandt, Caravaggio, El Greco and many others—which often go for sums that can only be described as astronomical. But with the advent of contemporary art, an entirely fresh bunch of thirtysomething and fortysomething art collectors are crowding art galleries all over the world trying to get their hands on masterpieces by contemporary art figures such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol.
These young collectors, who range from hedge fund managers to scions of wealthy families, are slowly taking over the art community. And unlike the older generation of art collectors, these young art enthuisiasts would rather spend a significant part of their money on the contemporary artworks of the likes of Takashi Murakami and Jeff Coons than on the Picassos and Dalis that their predecessors have bid to high heavens on.
This new generation of art collectors is not as interested in the Degases and the Van Goghs as the older art collectors are. But it’s not really a question of taste. Partly, it’s because of the sky-high and undoubtedly crazy prices these types of paintings usually command. More often than not, a masterpiece by a famous contemporary artist, say, New York painter John Currin, costs a little over a million dollars. Compare that to the $82.5 million Van Gogh’s Portrait of Dr. Gachet fetched at Christie’s New York in 1990 and you’ll see the difference.
That’s not saying that these young collectors could not afford them. As previously said, most of these young collectors are pretty wealthy themselves, and could probably outbid everyone else in the game. It’s just that to many young art collectors, contemporary art is just more exciting, and it’s something new. On top of it all, young art collectors claim that there is just something terribly energetic about contemporary works of art that just looking at them are more than enough to pump their adrenaline.
But with this rise in the number of young art collectors comes a rather expected result. As the demand for contemporary art rises, so do the price tags. While the prices of paintings by the Old Masters and Impressionists have considerably gone down in the past few years, the works of artists such as Gerhard Richter David Altmejd are now worth much, much more. And these artworks can only get more expensive if the artists have already passed away, like in the case of Basquiat and his good friend and mentor, Andy Warhol. Their works to this day continue to command high prices in the art market, and these young art collectors are only too willing to get their hands on them.
